Dear Friends:
Receiving goods for our own studio or home use is a small matter of checking the contents against the purchase order and looking for any damage.
I recently received a shipment of art paper. The outside packing was damaged and this was cause for concern as I did not want the paper inside to show any creases or marks.
Before opening the package I wanted to record the damage so that the company that shipped the item would be able to show the documentation to the shipping company in this case UPS.
As I began to unpack the paper, I started photographing each step of the process. This documentation led me to create a presentation that will help the individual artist who is involved in receiving supplies and shipping their own artwork to exhibits.
And as you know, one thought leads to another and I began to think about those individuals involved with setting up exhibits. They not only have the task of documenting damaged shipments, but every shipment in such a way that all the artwork gets properly and safely returned to the artist. And so with this in mind, I prepared a PowerPoint presentation about damage control that I hope you will find informative.
At the end of the presentation, you will find additional resources that Im sure you will find helpful.
Happy Valentines Day!
Kisses and God bless. OM

"Every man should be born again on the first day of January. Start with a fresh page. Take up one hole more in the buckle if necessary, or let down one, according to circumstances; but on the first of January let every man gird himself once more, with his face to the front, and take no interest in the things that were and are past."

"How did it happen that their lips came together? How does it happen that birds sing, that snow melts, that the rose unfolds, that the dawn whitens behind the stark shapes of trees on the quivering summit of the hill? A kiss, and all was said."
Victor Hugo

"Give me a kisse, and to that kisse a score;
Then to that twenty, adde a hundred more;
A thousand to that hundred;
so kisse on,
To make that thousand up a million;
Treble that million,
and when that is done,
Let's kisse afresh,
as when we first begun."

Opportunity for Natural History Artist Residency at the Huyck Preserve, Summer 2010
The Huyck Preserve is accepting applications for our COM.EN.ART program for 2010 (see attached brochure and application).
COM.EN.ART (COMmunity.ENviroment.ART) is an Artist-in-Residence program for natural history illustrators offered by the Huyck Preserve, a biological field station and 2000-acre nature preserve in the picturesque Hudson Valley hamlet of Rensselaerville, NY. This two-week residency is designed to provide concentrated field experience and study for illustrators, as well as encourage interaction and discussion about nature among artists, with scientists and with the community. The artists contribute a finished piece of artwork and submit a sketch to the Preserves ongoing artists sketchbook in exchange for studio and rustic living quarters. The residencies can take place in either early May to mid-June or the first three weeks of October. Applications must be postmarked or emailed by April 15th, 2010.
To learn more or to download an application, please visit our website: www.huyckpreserve.org or contact the Preserve at: info@huyckpreserve.org or (518) 797-3440.
